About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Canada -> Seoul -> Dalian

My itinerary -

September 19: Flight from Vancouver, Canada to Seoul and then a connecting flight from Seoul to Dalian landing at 7pm on September 20.

September 22: Flight from Dalian to Seoul at 2:30pm local time, and then a flight from Seoul to Vancouver.

U.S Citizen, but flying out of Canada for this trip. Do I qualify for 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit? Thanks!

Unfortunately, you don't. As you can see, this portion of your itinerary:

Seoul - Dalian - Seoul

Made you ineligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme because this is not treated as a transit because there is no third country. In other words, the immediate points before and after your Chinese destinations are in the same country and that is not allowed.

You need a Chinese tourist (L) visa obtained in advance.
