About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Maybe a little over 72 hours.

My mother and I are traveling into Beijing from Seoul. We arrive Saturday 8/31 at 8:30pm and leave Wednesday 9/4 at 8:30am, which is more than 72 hours. We're both American.

Would they allow this considering we'd be at the airport significantly earlier than 8:30am? Or would we get the 144 hour visa for the extra hours?
I'm worried we'll arrive to Beijing and be denied entry.
Thank you!

My flight is from Seoul -> Beijing -> Busan. So back to South Korea after Beijing. Is this not going to be possible?

You need a visa for that. You’re not in transit to a third country.

Erika, please don't worry. Simply speaking, 72 hours is a detail of the past because 144 hour visa free transit has replaced that option. So, your dates are perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

By the way, you didn't mention where will you go after your stay in Beijing! This is very important detail because you are not allowed to return back to South Korea and your flight to some other country should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in South Korea! In other words, your itinerary should look exactly like this:

South Korea (direct, nonstop flight) - Beijing (144 hour TWOV) - X country (different than both mainland China and South Korea on direct, nonstop flight)
