About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, Im flying with China Eastern from USA to Ho chi Minh City, with a layover in Shanghai China?

September 29 USA to Shanghai September 30 (15 hour layover)
October 1st Shanghai to Kunming October 1st (1 hour 40 min.)
October 1st Kunming to Ho Chi Minh City October 1st
Does my flight qualify the Free Transit Visa to go out to the city Shanghai?

As long as the total time in China from scheduled landing in Shanghai to scheduled departure from Kunming is under 24 hours then you don't need a visa. Since you will be required to switch from international to domestic terminal you should be granted the entry permit to leave the airport in Shanghai
