About:China Visa Exemption

Do I need a visa to travel to China?

Ill be travelling to China as part of a tour group and then spending an extra 6 days in Shanghai when the tour is finished.
Where do I apply for the visa in Australia.
I live in Wollongong which is an hour south of Sydney.

yes, you need to apply for a tourist L visa. You could make a appointment at the website of the China China Visa Application Service Center in Sydney and apply there.
