Land/ferry crossings in the Greater Bay Area

I'm a US passport holder flying to HKG. Am I eligible for visa-free entry if I cross by ferry from HK to Guangzhou, and four days later cross by bus into Macau? If so, what documentation should I provide for my onward travel?

No, you cannot do that without a Chinese tourist (L) visa obtained in advance. The only way to enjoy the Greater Bay Area (and the rest of entire Guangdong province) visa free is to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return after 144 hours to Macau, but by ferry only.
