About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

visa or no visa

We travel from Belgium to HongKong airport and than take the plane from Hong Kong to Hainan.
After 10 days vacation on Hainan, we fly back to Hong Kong and will be staying there for 8 days. Then we fly back to Belgium. During our stay in Hong Kong we will take a train to Guangdong and visit the city and stay for 1 night, after that we return to Hong Kong by train.
Do we need a Visa?

In reality, you could do your entire trip without a visa. I will explain.

For your trip to Hainan you can use 30 day visa free access and Belgian citizens are eligible for this visa free scheme. It is also allowed to travel from Hong Kong and also to return to Hong Kong after your trip is over.

To visit Guangzhou, you can fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and after that return by ferry from Shenzhen to Macau and then from Macau to Hong Kong. The trip with the flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in entire Guangdong province.

There are several more details regarding the above mentioned options, but it is up to you to decide what do you prefer.

If I was you, I would apply for a single entry Chinese tourist (L) visa and travel from Hong Kong to Hainan and then directly from Hainan to Guangzhou. After that just take a train to Hong Kong.

Options are here, decision is all yours :)
