About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I spend the night in Guangzhou, outside the airport, with free visa??

Hi,

My flight from Bali has a layover in Guangzhou of 21h55m.
I'd like to spend the night in the city and do some sightseeing.
The next day my flight makes a stop in Wuhan before continuing to San Francisco.

So I'll technically be in China for more than 24 hours, but only in Guangzhou for 22hrs.
Can I get the free 24 hour transit visit at the Guangzhou airport and go out of the airport for one night??

Thank you ZUPAN, that's what I was afraid of...

I have found another itinerary that has two stops (Guangzhou and Wuhan - Wuhan is just a stop, not a plane change) and my total time in China is LESS than 24 hours.
I assume I qualify for the visa if I take those flights.

But can I leave the airport and visit the city on the free 24 hour visa, and obtain it at the Guangzhou airport? I don't have access to a Chinese Embassy where I'm staying in Bali...

They will have to give it to you because the Guangzhou-Wuhan flight is domestic. Generally immigration is reasonable for layovers like this, but in the very unlikely case that your entry to the country is refused, you won't be taking the scheduled flight any longer and will instead be asked to purchase a ticket immediately departing China.

Aamir, unfortunately, you are not eligible for any kind of visa free transit. Your itinerary clearly shows that your entire transit time is longer than 24 hours, so you are not eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. You have t o obtain Chinese transit (G) visa in advance.

The calculation of transit time is done from the first scheduled arrival, in your case in Guangzhou, until your last scheduled departure, in your case from Wuhan. When you obtain the transit visa, you will be allowed to exit the airport too.
