About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Singapore - Shenyang - Pyongang(plane) + Sinuiju-Liaoning(overland)-Singapore(plane)

Hi! I hold a Spanish passport and I'm going on a North Korea trip for which I will be transiting in China.

For the first part of the trip (Singapore-Shenyang-Pyongyang, all by plane) I understand I will not need to get any visa in advance, as I will be landing in Shenyang at 9:30 am and will be departing to Pyongyang on the next day at 1:55 pm. Taoxian Airport (Shenyang) offers a 72-hour visa-free transit to Spanish nationals, right? The lady at the Chinese visa application office here in Singapore told me she was not aware of this, but I see on this website that this policy is applicable at this airport.

For the second part of the trip, I will be crossing overland from Sinuiju (North Korea) to Dandong (Liaoning province). Then I will take a train from Dandong to Shenyang (also Liaoning province) and I will be flying back to Singapore from Taoxian Airport slightly more than 24 hours after entering China. In this case, I understand I will need a single-entry transit visa, right?

Visa application center is only involved in application of Visas, they are not a good source to ask visa free transit questions which is handled by a immigration staff at the airport which is why she was not aware.

As long as Shenyang is the only mainland landing on the way to catch your flight to North Korea then you can do the visa free transit. Make sure you have proof of the flight reservation.

On the way back you do need a visa since you are not going by air.
