About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour visa parameters

We are American Citizens. We board a cruise in Singapore and it terminates in Shanghai. The cruise docks in Shanghai at 8:00am on a Saturday and our return flight home is the following day at 12:05pm from Pudong airport in Shanghai. Would we qualify for the 24 hour visa free transit and be able to stay in a hotel in Shanghai that Saturday evening when we exit the cruise ship?

No visa required as long as Shanghai is the only mainland china port and your flight out of shanghai does not transit through the same country as the cruise port prior to Shanghai. For example if last port prior to Shanghai is in Japan, the flight back to the US must not transit a Japanese airport
