About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit via WUH

Hello,

For Thai passport holder, do I need a transit visa for this route? Single or double entry?

BKK-WUH-JFK
and JFK-WUH-BKK

I have been told by Thai China Southern's sale staff that Wuhan airport has changed the 24-hour rule recently and I need to apply for a visa. I'm really confused.

Timatic (the airline's visa database) does not state this requirement, but again for Mainland Chinese airlines not all restrictions are listed on Timatic.

Given that you are certain the person advising you is an employee of the airline, you should exercise your best judgement to see whether getting a double-entry transit visa is necessary for the airline to let you on board. This is because there were instances (in the last few years) during which Mainland Chinese airlines claimed some previously unpublished rules and refused travels to persons of certain nationalities while cancelling their tickets without refunds when they showed up without a visa. Large numbers of Thais and Malaysians were affected by this in 2016 and there were literally no announcements other than a single FB post by the CZ office in Thailand buried under tens of other posts. If you want to be 100% certain you can double check by contacting the immigration office in WUH and CZ's ground staff in BKK and JFK. If immigration says a visa is not needed but CZ staff insist on getting a visa, then you probably should err on the employee's side and get one.
