Do I need a visa to join a cruise in Shanghai

My husband and I fly from the UK via Doha into Shanghai on the 16th August and stay at the hotel for 2 evenings. We then embark the Princess cruise which sails to Japan. We disembark in Shanghai on the 26th August where we transfer to the airport for our flight back to the Uk. Do we need a visa or are we covered by the 72 hr visa free transit?

Your entire itinerary is definitely eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice. You are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your first stop in Shanghai and for 24 hour visa free transit during your second stop in Shanghai. I have checked your cruise and it is also fine. The only details that you should take care of are:

- Your flights to/from Shanghai should not have any additional landings within mainland China and Japan.
