About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Seoul>Shanghai>Munich (connecting flight at Bejing)

My husband and I hold German and Spanish passports, we will staying 3 days in Shanghai before heading back to Germany, stopping in Bejing for changing flights. I just want to make sure we are eligible for the 144 hour visa free transit. And to obtain the visa do we need already the printed boarding passes?

Just to be clear, we are not leaving Bejing airport it is just a stop over. Still cannot get the 144h transit visa?

Fro, you are not eligible for 144h visa exemption transit as you travel to two transit zones in a row.

Unfortunately, you are not eligible for any kind of visa free transit in China. Simply speaking, you are not allowed to travel to two transit zones in a row, in your case Shanghai and Beijing for a period longer than 24 hours. So, if you cannot change your flights, you will have to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa in advance. Just one short explanation. It doesn't really matter of what kind your stop in Beijing is because the 144 TWOV rule is very clear... If you have another stop in another transit zone immediately after you have visited another one, you are automatically disqualified for visa free transit regardless of the nature of the mentioned stop.
