About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does this qualify for the free visa since I will only be in shanghai for less than 72 hours?

Hi, I am a USA citizen with valid passport. I will be flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai and staying only 2 nights there and then flying to Tokyo. Does this qualify for the free visa since I will only be in shanghai for less than 72 hours?

Your itinerary:

Hong Kong - Shanghai - Tokyo is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. Of course, your flights should not have any additional landing within mainland China!
