About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

SFO>PEK -- PEK>ULN

I have a Malaysian passport. I'm flying from SFO to PEK arriving at 2:00 PM. My flight from PEK to ULN is on the next day at 9:30 AM. I will need to claim my bag at PEK upon arriving. Do I qualify for TWOV so I can do an afternoon/evening tour of Beijing, stay in city and head to airport at 6 AM the next day? Not sure how early I can check in for my 9:30 AM flight to ULN.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Beijing. Assuming that you are flying on two different tickets, you will just approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will fill out the form and after that you will get a sticker in your passport. You will be allowed to exit the airport and to enjoy your tour of Beijing and the sleep in the hotel. I'm not sure how early you are allowed to make a check-in, but I assume that this is possible at least 3 hours before the scheduled departure.
