About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Which Nationalities Are Eligible Transitting In Urumqi?

I wanna ask about this statement. Which nationalities who can enjoy visa free transit for a maximum of 2 hours? It just says most of travelers, can you tell me more specific? Does Indonesian paspport holders eligible for this one at Urumqi airport?

Besides, in Urumqi Diwopu International Airport, most travelers only enjoy visa-free transit for a maximum of 2 hours and are not allowed to get out of the airport. For citizens from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkey and Yemen, they have to get a visa in advance.

You just answered your own question. Indonesia is not on the list which means it's nationals do not need a visa. Keep in mind however that the 2-hour connection rule still applies, which renders most, if not all, international routes ineligible for visa-free transit. The only exception is the Vienna-Urumqi-Guangzhou flight which was confirmed to be outside the rules.

Indonesian citizens are eligible to use visa free transit for a maximum of 2 hours in Urumqi. So, if you plan your trip through Urumqi airport, you can do it.

Here, just one detail that you should be aware of. Beside the maximum limit of only 2 hours allowed for visa free transit, it is not allowed to combine domestic and international flights! The only option is to use Urumqi airport for international to international flight. Of course, there is one exception and that is China Southern flight that has an itinerary Vienna - Urumqi - Guangzhou where the airline has assured its passengers that they can enjoy 24 hour visa free transit on the entire route, of course, if traveling to a third country.

In case that you do not plan to take this China Southern flight, my honest advice is to try to find an alternative to Urumqi.
