About:China Visa on Arrival

Photos and invitation

I am needing to go to Shenzhen for the day to see about a Non Criminal Check. I saw that I needed passport photos is there a photo booth there or do I need them before getting to the Port Visa area. When I had a work permit I needed to get an invitation letter, do you need one for the Visa on Arrival.

In principle, you need a passport size photo, but in case that you arrive without one, they will take a photo of you at the spot. Anyway, if you can obtain one before your arrival at the border crossing, this is much better option You don't need any kind of invitation letter. Upon arrival at Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing, you will fill out a form and pay for a visa. The price for UK citizens is 304 CNY and it is recommendable to have that amount in Chinese cash that you can obtain at Hong Kong money changers. My suggestion is that you don't mention the real reason for your travel to Shenzhen because of possible misunderstandings at the border, so just state that your reason of visit is a short stay for tourism purposes. In case that you intend to have an overnight in Shenzhen (recommended), you should bring your accommodation booking confirmation in hard copy.
