hop from Terminal 1 to terminal 2 at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport

Hi, I need to hop from T1 to T2 to pick up my parents after I land. I read that I can take the airport bus to get from T1 to T2, the question is do I need to get out of custom to before picking them up? I would like to wait at their gate (right after they land). Is that possible?
