About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Is a visa required when Shanghai is just a port of call on a cruise?

On a cruise originating in Japan and visiting SH as a port of call, would a visa be required? or is this covered under the visa free transit?

It is covered by 24 or 144 hour visa free transit, depending on time you will spend in SH, in case that your first port call, immediately after your departure from SH, is not a mainland Chinese and also not a Japanese port. For example, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong or some other countries and territories are just fine.
