Where do I apply for my visa?

Once I have my work permit (from Shanghai), does it matter which consulate or embassy I apply for my visa?

Jeff, the work permit is required to apply for work Z type. You should obtain Z type in Chinese Embassy or Consulate, and then work in Shanghai legally.
