About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

Transiting through Lanzhou and Beijing within 24 hours, is a visa needed?

Hi,

I have a flight from Taipei to Lanzhou with a 4 hour layover and then a flight from Lanzhou to Beijing with an 8 hour layover and then a flight from Beijing to the US. I hold a UK passport, am i eligible for the 24 hour visa waiver or will i need to purchase a transit visa?

Dear, if your total stay in mainland China is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy 24h transit without visa; otherwise, you need to apply for a transit visa in advance. You should calculate your entire time by counting the hours from your first scheduled arrival in China until your last scheduled departure from China. Just do that and you will know whether you will travel visa free or you will have to obtain a visa in advance.
