About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Collect a z-visa from a consulate outside home country

I am a British citizen.
I am going to start work in Shanghai as a teacher at an international school.
I have had my degree and criminal background certificates legalised by the Chinese Embassy in London and sent to my school in China.
My school has all of the other necessary documents for the visa application (medical check, references, etc.)
Can my visa application now be processed in China and the documents needed to pick up the visa be sent to an address in Japan (where I am) so that I get my passport stamped with the visa at a Chinese consulate in Japan? I would then enter Shanghai on the Z-visa. Is this doable?

Byron, your application can't be processed in China while you are in Japan. Plus, as I know, you can only apply in Japan unless you have a long-term visa in Japan.

Thank you very much for this. I have contacted the Chinese consulate in Fukuoka and they have confirmed what you have said. Thanks again.
