Details that matter are your citizenship and your itinerary. You first step when traveling visa free is to declare at the check-in in your origin country that you will fly through China visa free. After that statement, you will present your tickets and after that you will get your boarding pass(es)... After you arrive in China, you will approach the relevant counter, present your tickets, fill out the relevant form, get a sticker in your passport and that's it.
