Do I have to get 24/144hrs transit free visa before travelling

Do I have to get a permit from Chinese consulate for the 24/144 hrs transit free visa before I travel? Thanks

No, you don't. Chinese embassies and consulates have nothing to do with visa free transit schemes, but it is Chinese immigration that deals with it. Details that matter are your citizenship and your itinerary. You first step when traveling visa free is to declare at the check-in in your origin country that you will fly through China visa free. After that statement, you will present your tickets and after that you will get your boarding pass(es)... After you arrive in China, you will approach the relevant counter, present your tickets, fill out the relevant form, get a sticker in your passport and that's it.
