About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

YVR-PEK | PEK-BMK | BMK-PEK | PEK-YVR

Direct ticket from YVR-PEK and use the 144 hour transit visa to Bangkok. Stay in Bangkok for two weeks and on the way back direct flight the PEK again and use the 144 hour transit visa to go back to Vancouver. Would this be allowed?

Essentially, Canada - China - Thailand, Thailand - China - Canada all in 3-4 weeks.

Do I need to register with local authorities in Beijing?

Yes I meant DMK. I plan to transit through KUL (no visa needed for Canadian citizens). Thank you for your help!

Your entire itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in China twice and that is absolutely allowed.

In case that you plan to stay in the hotels/hostels and similar, those accommodations will do a registration for you, but if you intend to stay at your friends, relatives or in Airbnb, then you will have to register by Public Security Bureau (PSB), accompanied by your host(s).

*Just interested... Did you mean DMK and wrote BMK? Be careful because, as far as I know, there are no flights between PEK and DMK, so if making a connecting flight, be sure not to add another stop within mainland China because that would make you ineligible for 144 hours visa free transit!
