About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a Transit Visa

London to Shanghai to Hong Kong to London. Will spend 4 nights in Shanghai and 3 in Hong Kong? Is that ok? Do I need a China Visa to go to Hong Kong from mainland China? I am American.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. As far as Hong Kong is concerned, you can stay there 90 days if you wish since Hong Kong has separate immigration policy from the rest of China. You should take care that your flight from London to Shanghai does not have any additional landing in mainland China and Hong Kong and also that your flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong is nonstop.
