About:Chongqing to Chengdu Train

Can I buy a ticket at train station in cash with passport photo?

I need to go from Chongqing to Chengdu soon, the problem is that I will not have my passport with me due to visa extension. Do you think it is possible to buy a ticket at station and travel with a photo of my passport?

It is no problem to buy a ticket with copy at station. But I think you need real document when taking the train. If your passport is for visa use, there should be another document offered. You can use it to travel instead.
