About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa required or not

My wife and I arrive in Beijing (PEK) at 5:30am and have a 12 hour layover before we fly to Chiang Mai, Thailand (CNX) at 5:30pm the same day.

Do we need a Visa to leave the airport and take one of these tours? Do we need the 24 hour Visa free pass if we book one of the tours?

If you wanna leave the airport you have to get a temporary permit at the immigration.
But there's no guarantee that the immigration officer on duty will give you one, it's up to him/her.
