14 hour layover in Fuzhou

If I fly on Xiamen airlines from BKK to JFK, there is a 14 hour layover in FOC. I'm a US citizen. Would I need a visa to take this itinerary?

Someone said in UK for example they will give a transit visa at check in but I don't think its the same for the US flights. TITAMIC (official source referenced by airlines) states the following:

This TWOV facility does not apply at Fuzhou (FOC), Huangshan (TXN), Mudanjiang (MDG), Urumqi (URC) and Yanji (YNJ).

Unfortunately, this is not possible without a visa obtained in advance because Fuzhou airport, with just a few others, is exempt from almost universally accepted visa free transit schemes in mainland China. Now you are advised or to obtain a multiple-entry, long term visa valid for 10 years that is a good investment if you plan to travel in that part of the world in the future or just to change your flight itinerary that will bypass Fuzhou.
