About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Mauritius passport

Hi - I have a Mauritius passport and I am travelling to Shanghai (from Tokyo - my flight is at 2215pm today) for 2 days and then to the UK. I am a resident of the UK but hold a Mauritius passport. The airport staff have refused for me to board the flight as they advised I need a visa to Shanghai. However online it says Mauritius passport holders don’t need a visa to China for 60 days. Can you tell me whether this is true?

If you are a UK resident (with any kind of long-term leave to remain) then you should consider to challenge them in a small-claim court given that Mauritians are indisputably eligible for visa-free entry to China. Keep in mind, however, that it would be hard for the court to enforce the ruling if the airline you were supposed to fly with does not have services to the UK.

The truth is that Mauritian citizens simply don't require visa to travel and to stay in China for a period of up to 60 days. Having that in mind I really don't understand the stance of Japanese airport staff because they have Timatic at their hand and they can easily check that fact. This is such a disappointment because I would never immagine such a clumsiness from Japanese authorities.
