There is no visa on arrival at Shanghai. You must have a visa in advance, or else return to Hong Kong via another country (or Macao or Taiwan).

Thanks Saul. I’m running out of time to get visa in advance. How would you suggest we book our flights to get to Shanghai and then back to the UK? Thanks

Fly Hk - Shanghai - Macau and take the ferry from Macau to UK.

This is fine for the 144h twov.

Thanks so would I be possible to do Hong Kong to Shanghai and then back to UK vs coming back through Macau to Hong Kong to fly back to the UK. Just seeing if that still works for the 144 TWOV
