About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

Eligible Citizenship for Hainan Visa on Arrival

Hi, we will travel in group of 5 person to Hong Kong. We hold Indonesian passports. We also plan to travel from Hong Kong to other cities in Mainland China (e.g. Fujian province, Shanghai, Beijing). What is the faster way to get visa to Mainland China since our trip is only around 1 week?

- Can we apply the same day service for group visa or rush service (2 days) after arrive in Hong Kong? What documents are required to apply the same day service or rush service? Where can we apply the visa? How much is the cost for same day service or rush service?

- What citizenship are eligible to apply for Visa on Arrival? Can we fly from Hongkong to Hainan then apply for Visa on Arrival (to travel to other cities in Mainland China) when arrive in Hainan? How much is the cost of Visa on Arrival for Indonesian nationality? Is there a minimum stay in Hainan to apply for Visa on Arrival? Is it possible to depart from Hainan to Mainland China on the same day after get the Visa on Arrival? What documents are required to apply for Visa on Arrival?

- If we travel from Hong Kong to Hainan, do we still need to contact travel agency for 30 days visa free? Can we contact the travel agency in Hong Kong or is it required to contact travel agency in Hainan?

Thank you.

If we contact travel agency in Hainan to book their services and use 30 day visa free policy, can we still apply for China landing Visa on Arrival after arrive in Hainan? Where can we find the list of Hainan travel agencies and their websites? Thank you.

Part one:

Actually, it is always the most practical and hassle free option to obtain China visa in your home country, i.e. Indonesia. There are three CVASC (Chinese Visa Application Service Center) in Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan. It is possible that there is another on in Denpasar. In case that you decide to apply in Hong Kong, it is also possible to do through Hong Kong CVASC or maybe even easier and faster, but a bit more expensive is through the agency and one of the best is definitely FBT - Forever Bright. Please, just visit all the mentioned institutions websites and give yourself a bit time to study all the options and make your decisions accordingly. On CVASC and Forever Bright websites you will also find the data about the relevant fees. Please, have in mind that Forever Bright although hassle free, reliable and fast, takes some fee for their service which is, of course, normal.

In order to visit Hainan, you as Indonesian citizens are advised to go for 30-day visa free access and not VOA because lately Chinese authorities are practically insisting to downplay the use of this option. Your citizenship is eligible for 30-day visa free access, so you will just have to decide how many days you plan to spend on Hainan, where you will sleep and book your flight tickets. Also, you will have to make a contact with local Hainan agency from which you will book some of their offers like an airport transfer and probably something else, like a simple half day tour. Like this, the agency will support you at relevant authorities and you will travel and enjoy visa free.

Part two:

Having all the details you have mentioned, especially the detail where you have mentioned that you also plan to visit some other parts of mainland China, I suggest you to apply for a Chinese visa in advance or in your country or in Hong Kong and then you can travel wherever you want, including Hainan and should not be burdened by some additional formalities.

I do understand that VOA appears to be more than attractive and nominally Indonesian citizenship is eligible. Its "charm" is especially attractive with the detail that says that those with VOA are also permitted to travel to other cities in mainland China. In reality, as I have previously told you, this does not function exactly in that way. So, again... Or just apply for your pre-arranged Chinese visa to be able to travel throughout the country, or just limit yourself to your visit to Hainan that does not require a visa, but requires a booking of some of travel agency offers.

I hope this helped a bit.

Please, you should just forget about this Hainan VOA. People are definitely and almost officially discouraged from applying for this VOA, so don't plan it. Just accept that this VOA is something that exists in some rules and regulations, but in reality it is hardly if ever applied or practised. You should defiinitely go after Hainan 30 day visa free access. As far as the agencies are concerned, you can start with this agency, i.e. Travel China Guide.
