About:China Transit Visa

Hey so I plan to fly from the 4th of June, arriving in Shanghai on the 5th in the morning...

then can i fly back in the early morning of Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday? And I understand it right that I can just arrive and only need my tickets and passports.

But if I arrive on the 5th and leave on the 11th that would mean I stay less than 144 hours... why do I need a visa then?
