Hi, you misunderstand the visa free transit. You are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. But if you want to go outside of the airport, you need 24-hour visa-free entry permit at the relevant counter.

Muhammad, your itinerary Montréal - Beijing - Islamabad is definitely qualified for 24 hours visa free transit. So, you should just use correct terminology because you will travel visa free and not on transit visa. In case that you plan to exit the airport, you will apply for 24 hours free entry permit and will enclose your accommodation confirmation in Beijing in hard copy along with your flight tickets. By the way, you should not have any additional landing within mainland China beside Beijing because otherwise you could end up spending more than 24 hours for your transit and this is not allowed.

Again, customer services of almost every airline company are totally clueless and useless about the subjects that are outside from their three or four usual questions asked by passengers. I can confirm you once again, in case that you have presented your travel itinerary correctly and you don't have any other landings within mainland China, you are perfectly eligible for 24 hours visa free transit. I repeat - perfectly. Trust me, because people working at the airport and with Timatic at their disposal will just print your boarding passes and wish you a pleasant visa free journey.

Of course, Joey has probably seen the key problem in your query to Air China because you were mentioning transit visa. Well, as you can see from my first reply to you, I was always mentioning visa free transit. This is such a huge difference. Please, just use the phrase "24 hours visa free transit" and not anything else. Trust me, you will be just fine.

If you are traveling on a Pak passport then previous data points suggest that Immigration most likely will not let you out. Even those traveling on US/Canadian/NZ passports were refused entry when their transit periods were under 24 hours. Get a transit visa if you don't want to stuck inside the empty terminal for nearly a day.

It is true that nobody guarantees that he will be allowed to exit the airport in Beijing because the issuing of entry permit is always upon immigration discretion, but his itinerary is eligible for visa free transit without any doubt. Actually, now it is up to his personal choice whether he will decide to fly and maybe not be allowed to exit the airport in Beijing or he will apply for a transit visa that has its relevant issuing procedures and also has its relevant price and be certain that he will be allowed to exit the airport.
