Sergey, I assume that you ask about arriving at Guangzhou airport from some foreign country, different than Hong Kong, right? This is very important detail because if your travel plan looks like this:

X country (different than mainland China and Hong Kong) - GZ (China) - Hong Kong

Then, you are definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Of course, assuming that your citizenship is among those eligible. Cypriot and Russian citizenship are eligible.

In case that I'm right, you will have to book your train ticket in advance and have it in your hands at the time when you will perform check-in for your flight to China. On the route between GZ and Hong Kong you can use only GZ–Kowloon through train that departs from East railway station and arrives at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. You have to buy your ticket by visiting Guangdong Line Fare - MTR Intercity Through Train website. Keep in mind that you HAVE TO use exactly that train you have bought your tickets for. This train is fine and takes a bit less than 2 hours to reach Hong Kong from Guangzhou.

The tickets from Hong Kong are irrelevant for this segment of your planned travel.
