About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Is routing BKK - HKG - CAN - BKK acceptable

I have a Chinese visa but my son does not, we want to visit Guangzhou for 3 to 4 days. Can we fly from Bangkok and transit (not clear customs) in Hong Kong before arriving in Guangzhou then depart from Guangzhou back to Bangkok?

Everything that matters here is your citizenship that is obviously eligible and your itinerary Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Bangkok that is also eligible. The type of tickets or whether you will be in Hong Kong just for a short time in transit area or for a longer period really don't matter. Of course, you have to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. By the way, you can stay in Guangdong province even for a longer time since 144 hours visa free transit has been recently introduced.
