About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

PVG layover then Shanghai 144hr VFT 10 days later?

Planning flight itinerary LAX-BKK with 2 hour flight change in PVG (won't leave airport). Will spend 10 days in Thailand, then BKK-PVG, 4 days Shanghai, then PVG-LAX. Will we be eligible for 144hr visa-free transit for the stay in Shanghai? We have USA passports.
