About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

visa dublin-shenzhen-hongkong-macau-hongkong-japan-hongkong-shenzhen-dublin

Help will be greatly appreciated!
For two people, 1 Irish & 1 UK passport, with this plan: to fly from dublin to shenzhen, immediately ferry to HK, spend 4 days there, ferry to Macau, spend 6-7 days there, ferry back to HK and fly to Japan, two weeks later get back to HK and immediately to shenzhen to fly back to dublin: what Chinese visa/s would be needed?
And if not immediately back to dublin but spending 1-3 days in shenzhen first?

Just adding one point here: Timatic still lists the notorious 24-hour TWOV restriction in Shenzhen which does not allow those staying for less than 24 hours to proceed to HK or Macau. Until the restriction is removed, the airline is unlikely to allow you to board if your stay in Shenzhen is less than 24 hours. A solution is to extend your initial stay in Shenzhen to more than 24 hours before proceeding to HK.

Dublin - Shenzhen - Hong Kong... Here you can use 24 hours visa free transit to reach Hong Kong from Shenzhen by ferry. So, no visa in this segment. One detail here. In order to be eligible for 24 hours visa free transit, you will have to buy your ferry ticket in advance and have it in hard copy ready to be shown to relevant authorities. You can do this online on TurboJet ferry website.

Hong Kong - Macau - Hong Kong - Japan - Hong Kong... No need to think about visa at all because for the entire itinerary you simply do not need any kind of visa.

Hong Kong - Shenzhen - Dublin... Here we have a problem that can be resolved in two different ways. The first way is that you obtain Shenzhen VOA valid for 5 days, stay in Shenzhen and then depart from Shenzhen to Dublin. This visa limits your stay to Shenzhen city only. The second way is a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou that will allow you 144 hours visa free transit in entire province of Guangdong. After your stay in the province, you can depart from Shenzhen to Dublin.
