About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I would like to attend medical exhibition in Shanghai 14 to 17 May.

I am UK citizen currently living in Bangkok. I would like to visit a medical exhibition in Shanghai. Can l use the 72 hour visa free facility if l fly from Bangkok to Shanghai and then fly back to Bangkok, or must l fly out of Shanghai to another country before returning to Bangkok..?
If l have to fly out directly to Bangkok can l fly to Hong Kong and transit there to Bangkok?
Thank you for any advice you can give.
Regards,
Peter

In order to be eligible for 144 (not 72) hours visa free transit, you will have to use Hong Kong in one of your travel legs. So, probably the best itinerary would be Bangkok - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Bangkok.

Using the above mentioned itinerary you are definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai because Hong Kong is considered as third country in this regard.
