Transit through Guangzhou for 8 hours

I have an 8 hour transit in CAN, I'm travelling from India to Canada via Guangzhou. Can I request my airlines to check in my luggage only till Guangzhou so that I can enter China ?

Thank you. I’m worried about it, too. My exact layover time is 8:15 hours. However, I’ve heard that people below 8 hours are usually denied.

Well, of course you can ask your airline to do that favor, but it is entirely up to airline whether they will allow you such a convenience or not. I assume that you are traveling on a through (single) ticket, so this option could be really limited because the airline usually check the luggage for the entire journey in the same way as they issue immediately two boarding passes. By the way, you can apply for 24 hours free entry permit upon arrival in Guangzhou regardless of your luggage, although this could be a bit tricky because of relative short time of your layover, i.e. you could be denied entry permit.

Well, entry permit is ALWAYS upon disrection of immigration official, so you really cannot be certain until the very moment when an official declares postive or negative decision. I can just hope, as well as you, that they will allow you to exit the airport and not to spend your time in sterile area of an airport.
