About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa free entry both ways

Hi, I am a Finnish citizen flying from Finland to Ulaanbataar, Mongolia via Beijing for 1,5 weeks. I intend to apply for the 144h visa free transit on my way to Ulaanbataar and spend a few days in Beijing. Would I be eligible to apply for the 24h visa free transit when I am flying back to Finland from Mongolia in order to collect my luggage and check it in again? I only have 2h at the Beijing airport and I am buying the flights separately so my luggage would not be forwarded automatically. Thank you in advance.

Your first leg is perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Your second leg is perfectly eligible for 24 hours visa free, but you should have in mind that having only 2 hours between two international flights bought on separate tickets in such a huge airport as Beijing is equal to playing a roulette. I would strongly advise you against such an itinerary and would advise you to postpone your flight from Beijing to Helsinki for one day or for some time later during the day. Trust me, you will hardly manage to catch your flight home after you have arrived from Ulaanbaatar. You are eligible for 144 hours even for your second stay in case that you decide to make an overnight in Beijing.
