About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

New winds blowing.

The Provincial Police Department's site on 30 April 2019 stated: (in Chinese, translated by Google...):
"In order to further exert the effect of the transit visa exemption policy, in November 2016, the provincial government applied to the State Council for the implementation of the policy of optimizing and improving the visa exemption for foreigners. In May 2017, it was approved by the State Council. In April 2019, the National Immigration Administration approved that the province officially implemented the 144-hour transit visa exemption policy for foreigners from May 1 this year." Should be official now...

It is official. Timatic has been updated and news releases were issued. However, this is too last minute for anyone to take advantage of given that most people transiting through Guangzhou only have tickets leaving within 72 hours.
