About:Chinese Consulate in New York

I recently traveled to Asia and got a Chinese visa before I went.

I now need more pages in my passport and thus have to do a renewal for a passport. I was told by the passport agency that the visa does not go forward with the new passport. Is this true because the visa is good for 10 years. What would I need to do to continue the Chinese visa.
