About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

do i need a visa from philippines to shanghai? direct flight? holding Filipino passport.

Well, it depends on your citizenship. In case you are Filipino citizen, you will need Chinese visa. Anyway, I assume that you are talking about the transit, but you have written what you wanted to say just until Shanghai. In case of transit, you can proceed from Shanghai to a third country by using 24 hours visa free transit in case that your layover in Shanghai is less than 24 hours.
