TIMATIC is the official source. United website has the TIMATIC lookup tool. quickest way to find it is to google "TIMATIC United Airlines". China needs to be Transit Point and not the destination for the rule to come up (since its a transit without visa and not a visa). The only thing that changes is 72 was increased to 144 hours so if they were able to look it up before i don't know why they would be having problem now. It reads:
Nationals of USA transiting through Chengdu (CTU), Kunming (KMG) or Wuhan (WUH) with a confirmed onward ticket for a flight to a third country within 144 hours, starting from 00:01 on the day following the day of entry. They must:
- arrive at and depart from the same airport; and
- have documents required for the next destination.
