Toronto>Shanghai>Taiwan

I'm travelling from Toronto to Shanghai, staying for 3 days then continuing my travels to Taiwan ultimately ending in Australia after a few stops in between, then back to Shanghai as a connection on my flight home to Toronto.
Will this be an issue without a visa in China? (Visiting Shanghai twice, as well as travelling from Shanghai to Taiwan)

Yes, you are fine.

Toronto - Shanghai - Taiwan
X country - Shanghai - Toronto.

Qualified.

There are no problems with your planned travel journey at all. Just keep in mind that any of your flights to and from Shanghai should not have any other landing within mainland China! I assume that you were talking about nonstop flights and if so, then I can just reconfirm that you are perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free transit twice!
