About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel on different airlines alright?

Hello, If I fly from Germany to New Zealand via China, but on two different airlines, am I still eligible for the 144-hr visafree stay? (since, for airline purposes, it is not a transit)
Also, how often can I repeat the 144-hr stay? Can I have a 144-hr stopover in Beijing on the way to NZ, and another 144-hr stopover in Shanghai on the way back to Germany?
Thank you for any answers!

Definitely. In reality, there is no limit of use of 144 hours visa free transits. The only thing you should keep in mind is the fact that you should not have any other stops/landings in China with the exception of Beijing when traveling toward New Zealand and Shanghai when traveling back to Germany.

This is fine both ways. You should just take care that your flights do not have any other landing within mainland China beside Beijing while traveling toward New Zealand and Shanghai while returning back to Germany.

You can repeat 144 hours visa free transit unlimited times.
