About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Train transit through Beijing

Hey.
Beijing have a 144 hour visa free transit policy.
The scenario would be to take a train from HK to Beijing, stay in Beijing up to 144 hours, then take another train to Mongolia.
Would I be eligible for this TWOV ?
I'm from France, so my nationality is eligible.
Thanks for your help.

If you will reach Beijing at Beijing West Railway Station, you can get the free transit in this trip.

This plan is not eligible. The train to Mongolia always requires a visa.

Indeed, train form Beijing to Ulaanbaatar departs from Beijing Railway Station (an "old" one) that is not eligible. The train that is eligible is Beijing West Railway Station.

Maybe your itinerary could be something like this:

- Take a conventional (slow) train from Hong Kong (Hung Hom station) to Beijing West station where you can apply for 144 hours free travel
- Take a flight from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar

Like this, you will be perfectly within the legal frames for 144 hours free transit.
