About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa for Malaysian passport holder

Hi, I am a Malaysian passport holder and will be flying with Xiamen Airlines from Seoul (ICN) to Xiamen (XMN) then to Sydney (SYD). The transit time in Xiamen airport is around 7 hours.

1. If I do not leave the airport, do I need to apply for a visa?
2. If I want to leave the airport and have applied for entry permit, do I need to register at the police station? Considering that I only have around 3-4 hours to explore the city this might not worth the trouble?

Thanks

1. Yes. Malaysian nationals need a visa to transit Xiamen.
2. No. You wouldn't need to register at the police station for such a short visit.

Hi Hector,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm also transiting in China (Guangzhou) for 4.5 hours on my flight to Seoul:
Sydney (SYD) - Guangzhou (CAN) - Seoul (ICN)

From my understanding, I don't need a visa for the transit in Guangzhou, can you please confirm?

As for the transit in Xiamen, should I get a transit (G) or tourist (L)? I am planning to go on a short city sightseeing tour during my transit time, and was wondering which visa suits best.

Thanks

You don't need a visa for Guangzhou if your layover there is less than 24 hours. A G is sufficient given the fact that you most likely do not have a hotel reservation so you won't qualify for a L anyway.
