About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

UK Citizen Living Overseas

I live in Malaysia and hold a British passport. I am hoping to travel Singapore - Shanghai - Kuala Lumpur or maybe in reverse. Is this OK on my UK passport?

You can avail of the 144h twov in this trip. No visa will be required.

Keep in mind that the scheme is only open to British citizens, so if you have a passport that does not describe you as a British citizen (e.g., British overseas citizen) in the nationality field then you must get a visa. Also if you are a British national (overseas) then you must travel with a home return permit plus your HK ID card.

Hi John,
What's a "home return permit"? I have a work permit for Malaysia in my UK passport.

So I take it that your British passport says you are a British national (overseas) and NOT a British citizen? Because if you are a British citizen this will not be of interest to you and I would prefer not to bore you with all the details.
