About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

London-Beijing-Chengdu-Tokyo-Beijing-London

Hello,

Will I benefit from this 72 hrs/144 hrs twov policy if I was to travel from London and change at Beijing (2hours transfer, not entering Beijing) to Chengdu for 3 days (still not sure if Chengdu is qualify for 144 hours or not), then traveling from Chengdu to Tokyo. However, our return trip again change at Beijing from Tokyo back to London (not entering Beijing). I am confused if I needed a visa. Practically I would only enter Chengdu. Many thanks

You need a visa for your first entry to China. Two stops in the mainland limits you to 24 hours transit without visa. You would need to fly non-stop to Chengdu from London to benefit from 144 hours visa-free transit in Chengdu.
