Can foreigners purchase Terracotta Army tickets online?

or they have to show their passports at the ticket office?
I was trying to purchase the tickets online, but I see that a Chinese ID is required. Are the tickets issued to the name on the ID, or can I ask somebody in China to purchase them for me online and I will just pick them from the ticket office?
